Workshop 3: Follow up Task: Write a paragraph explain how are colour and lighting used to create the two worlds?

The colour in the real world is boring it does not have much colour in the world so it's colourless the colours in the real world is dull, grey, dim, and sunless. We see this when they first move in and Coraline goes for a walk if you look in the background you can see that there are trees and plants and they are all dead or they are dying. This makes the audience think that the real world is miserable and sad the director did this to so when Coraline goes to the other world should want to stay because if it was the same as the real world she wouldn't want to stay and she would stay in the real world there would be no plot point and no movie. Since the real world is so dull it worked well with the otherworld because it made Coraline want to stay and not wanna go back to the real world. This reminds of the movie hotel Transylvania because it is all about monsters and the other world in this movie is the human world and Mavis is not allowed to go because of the father.

Blood cells

2020 run there is a virus called the coronavirus call for the white blood cells were already here red blood cells get back white blood cells move in if we don’t make it out of this it was good fighting alongside you guys. Attack, captain they are nearly dead we have to keep moving we have no time to waste we have to take out the mother ship or we will all be dead. White blood cell 2 runs right white blood cell 3 runs left were gonna take out the mother once we do that they will run ATTACK NOW!!! BOOM!  Everyone run now it’s gonna blow BOOM! It’s over and has destroyed the enemy's legs to the bar.

Arthritis Research

Arthritis is caused by a thing called an immune system that is attacking your healthy body tissue, but still, people have not found out what is the cause of arthritis but usually, your immune system is will make antibodies that fight the bacteria and so it will help keep the infection away. Not everyone can get arthritis risk factors to increase your chance of getting arthritis but people can develop them without any of the risk factors

Workshop 3: How does lighting & Colour enhance the story

Atmosphere - Feel in space, the energy around you.

Mood - how you feel.

Location - place something is happening.

Lighting - Natural - light that comes from nature - sun, moon, stars, lightning, fire.
                Artificial - man-made light source - electricity, light bulbs.

Warm light - yellow/orange tone
Cold light - blue/green/white tone-clean/clinical

Bright - fills the space.
dull - fill half the space -faded.

Colour - colour palette - what are the predominant colours used.

Warm colours - welcoming, happy, friendly.
Cold colours - depressed, sad, chilly, lonely.
                                      -clean, clinical

Brainstorm: lighting/colour
What is shaping - Coraline and her family having breakfast in the real kitchen look rusted, tired.

Describe - lighting - natural light - clouds through the windows.
Cold - white tone
Bright - whole space bright

Colour - white, yellowish, cream - old
cold - make space feel tired.

What is the effect on the viewer - boring, sad, dull, understand that they are not a happy family, Coraline unhappy.

Directors Purpose - makes the other world seem better.
Coraline doesn't like the real world.

Any other techniques - setting - outside the window is loudly and grey, furniture looks old and run down. Doesn't feel lived in-empty.

Directors Purpose - shows theme looks can be deceiving because other family looks kind and happy but are actually evil.

Costumes - formal, fashionable, fit better, makes them look tidier

Inside and Out (Heart dissection)

Yesterday in science we had to get into groups of 3 or 4 after that we miss had given us a pig heart for each group. Afterward, we had to examine the pig's heart with the tools that miss had given us the tools that we used were Scaple scissors tweezers in my group was Willam, Ibrham, and I. At first me and Willam played around with the heart like holding it we tried to make our friend Ibrham touch but he said he wouldn't touch it because he thinks it looks yuck. So first Willam grabs the scaple then he started to cut the heart first he made a nice little cut enough for us to open the heart and let us see inside. We tried to figure out what parts are which I would show you guys an image but I can't so I'm sorry but instead, I have this photo of this diagram the diagram is a heart. For the last few minutes, I cut the heart in half and started naming things, The heart is important because you need it to help you breathe so the oxygen goes to your heart through one vessel so it would enter in blue then after it would exit the heart red and go to the lungs.

Genre Research Reflection

The task we had to do is we had to figure out questions about a music genre of our choice the genre we choose to do is rap. So we had to answer questions like the history of rap the style of rap etc, the reason why we did rap was that my group and I thought it was going to be the easiest genre.

Rapping (or rhyming, spitting, emceeing, MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular", which is performed or chanted in a variety of ways, usually over a backing beat or musical accompaniment.

Rapping originated from Africa centuries before hip hop music was even invented. In west Africa, there were people who would tell their story but rhythmically over the drums and sparse: instrumentation. A notable rap song that was recorded is the 1950 song “Gotta Let You Go” by Joe Hill Louis.

The reason rap is called is that in late 1960 there was a rapper who called himself Hubert G. Brown but then changed it to H. Rap Brown. It is a word of slang the meaning of the slang is speech or oration but they didn’t call it rap until a decade later.

The first known female rap artist is Sha-Rock she was born in 1962 during her rapping career she was called the Mother of the mic. Since she was considered the first female rapper before she became a rapper she first started breaking dancing then a few years later is when she started to rap and make music.

The first known rapper is Coke La Rock he is known for being the first rapper to ever start spitting rhymes after partnering up with Dj Kool Herc in 1973. People recognize both as the original founding fathers of Hip Hop, while Rap music was just underground. Dj Kool Herc would rap at some of the parties he would DJ at and some people would say he was inspired by the Jamaican Tradition. The Jamaican Tradition is when people would gather up and would be talking or chanting usually in a monotone melody over a beat by the DJ.a

The fastest rapper in history is Twista, Twista has rapped 11.2 syllables per second so 11 syllables in just one second he became the first rapper in 1992. His fastest rap song is called Twista-Mista he raps 1,287 words in 4 minutes 36 seconds that is about 280 words per minute.

Hip-hop has never been more popular than it is today, but many fans probably still wouldn’t know who Aubrey Graham is, even though they stream his songs every day.

Going back to the early days of rap music, stage names have been a huge part of its culture. Even many of the most popular rappers to ever hold a microphone have kept their real names a mystery so we are trying to find their real names today too.

Workshop 2: linking themes to impact of angles, movement and shots

Brainstorm -

What is happening in this shot -
Other Wybie standing on stairs outside the house. 'Other mother' asks him to smile from the doorway, instead, he frowns. Other Wybie making self smaller-less of a target-head down, shoulders hunched. It looks weak and vulnerable.

Angles/Shots - High angle - makes Wybie look overpowered, weak and vulnerable,
POV - 'Other mother', makes her seem stronger, bigger, more dominant.

Viewer - Makes viewers feel sorry for/ scared for other Wybie.

Why did the director do this -

Foreshadowing hinting at what is to come.
hinting that maybe the other mother isn't so wonderful.

Other Techniques - lighting - spotlight on Wybie - like he's on the spot/ under focus - dark around creates a creepy atmosphere.

In the scene with the other mother and the other Wybie we see high angle shots used to show the theme 'looks can be deceiving'. We see this when the other mother asks the other Wybie to smile but he hunches over and frowns instead. This makes the audience feel sorry for the other Wybie because he looks scared. The use of a high angle shot from the other mother's point of view adds to this feeling as it makes the Other Wybie look weak and vulnerable. Why did the director do this to foreshadow the change of the other mother from creepy to more creepy. Coinciding with this is the use of lighting. A spotlight is on the other Wybie emphasizing that he is under the focus of the Other Mother. This reminds us of early in the film where a low angle shot was used to make Wybie seem big and scary but he really he was just ordinary this links us to the scene because it also shows looks can be deceiving.
