Shark Finning

What is it?

Shark finning is when people catch the shark and they cut the fins off and throw them back into the ocean, when they do this the shark are still alive and they die a slow and painful death. This happen because in China and Hong Kong the shark fins are used in a soup dish that is cost 100US the soup was eaten because it was delicacy meal. They added other flavor because the shark fin taste like nothing so there is no point in them killing the shark and taking its fins. Every hour 30,000 sharks are killed by humans when only 10 people are killed a year this dish is also 1,000 years old.

Why is it a delicacy?

It is consider a delicacy because it was first made by an emperor in the sung dynasty (AD 968) this was known as the golden era in chinese history. This dish was created as a sign of the emperor's wealth, power, and generosity.

How is this impacting our oceans?

This impacts the oceans because when the sharks go extinct it will effect the food chain by a lot of people let this happen when they go other marine life will slowly die off. After along time the ocean will be empty which will be bad for us because some of them have toxin   

Pink Shirt Day

 What is Pink Shirt day?

Pink shirt day is a day where people spread awareness of bullying, I will be completely honest I was once bystander and trying to improve I have been a bystander in a situation where someone was getting verbally bullied. He tried to defend himself and tried asking us for his help but I couldn't help because I was to scared to step in and help him. Now that this has happen I have been blaming myself I also didn't want to help because one of my friends were apart of it and when he got involved the kid got scared and starting apologizing to him because he was scared of him which made me mad inside. Now since that has happen we have realize that we were wrong and he also said it's ok guys but even though he said it's fine we still feel guilty.

The Starfish Poem

 What is the main message of this poem?

The message is about a two young man one that like to write and one that is trying to save the starfish from dying because the sun is coming up and there not in water. I think the main message of this is that if something small could still make a difference in someone's life but in this scenario it is about starfish. When he throws the starfish into the ocean he is making a difference in that starfish life because it is better if at least some starfish survive instead of none.

In the poem the boy talks about it when he is talking to the other young man he tells him that he made a difference in that starfish life as he threw it. He says this because the man told him there is no point because there are way to much starfish that have washed up on the shore and he won't be able to save them all but he doesn't care because he is helping the ones he can.

I am trying to show you the cause and effects of the garbage patch, the garbage patch matters because us humans are the cause of the problem. It is also because if we as people don’t stop littering the waters will become toxic to us and sea life. If humans are exposed to these toxic chemicals for long periods of time it would be dangerous for mankind. Also when the sea animals are eating the rubbish or dying by the trash they are becoming intoxicated because in their bodies when they die there are left over particles of plastic, since the toxins from the plastic have entered the food chain that is threatening human health.

What I am trying to tell you is that the garbage patch is bad not just for the sea life but also for humankind because people could also die by what is happening to the ocean and sea animals.

The garbage patch is this big patch of garbage in the ocean. Every year about 100 million marine animals die from plastic and 100 thousand die by getting tangled in plastic yearly. But they say that is only the marine life they find so they are basically saying that there are more marine animals out there that are dead but we just can’t find them.

The way I got all my evidence was from reliable sites on google. All the sites I went through usually said the same thing so I assume it is right if so many of them are saying the same thing. On the other hand you can on youtube and find videos of the garbage patch and the marine animals either getting tangled in plastic or finding turtles with plastic straws in their nose or body. Sometimes there are some where they find dead sea animals and can’t help them because they have already passed.

Basically what I am trying to say is that we as people need to stop littering and stop dumping our rubbish into the ocean because in some countries there are people who dump their rubbish in the water by their boat. If we don’t stop we will all die from the toxic marine animals we eat or we will die from the toxic chemical in the water because we have been exposed to it for to long.
