Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals
Definition of the solution:
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)
Definition of saturated:
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)
In groups of three, you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.
Ratio; 3 Tablespoons Borax per 1/2 cup water
Materials
1) Cup
2) Borax
3) 1x Ice cream sticks
4) Water
5) Peg
6) Pimp cleaners
Process
Step 1: Get a 1x cup
Step 2: Write the name Borax on the cup.
Step 3: Tap water in a cup
Step 4: Put Borax in the water
Step 5: Make Pimp cleaners into a star
Step 6: Put the star on a peg and put in water
Sugar Crystals
Materials
1) a Cup
2) String
3) 1x Ice cream stick
4) Sugar
5) Warm water
Process
Step 1: get a cup
Step 2: Put warm water
Step 3: Put sugar in the cup
Step 4: Mix the water
Step 5: Put a string on a Stick and put it int the water
Step 6:
Ratio: 4 Tablespoons salt to 1/2 cup water
Materials
1) Salt
2) cup
3) Pen
4) Water
5) Stick
6) string
Process
Step 1: Tip water in a cup
Step 2: Put salt in the water
Step 3: Mix the cup
Step 4: tie a string around a stick and put it in the water
Step 5:
Step 6:
Findings
Describe your crystals in the table below.
What crystals worked out best and why?:
Borax because it is bigger and I say it's better plus the other ones are small so it's not that cool.
Conclusion:
Making the crystals was fun because I got to make a crystal and I've never done it before. That's what made it fun and it was interesting how it was getting made the crystals that we made were borax, salt and sugar crystals so now when I go home I can make heaps of crystals and show it off even if it's not real so I learned in science how to make crystals.
